NFL bag policy booed again as Vikings bomb home opener

Posted: Updated:

The loss wasn't the only reason many Vikings fans left the home opener feeling sour. The new bag policy had many booing the restrictive size of the clear bags that are the only approved option on game day.

Plenty of people were turned away from the Metrodome on Sunday purely because of purse size, because anything that is not a clutch -- that is, smaller than 4.5 by 6.5 inches -- or in a clear 12-by-12-inch bag won't be allowed in the stadium. Furthermore, everything inside those clear bags must not be larger than 4.5-by-6.5 inches, meaning a lot of ladies found their wallets alone were too big to bring in.

After the Boston Marathon bombing, the NFL decided big bags -- including backpacks -- would become a thing of the past. In fact, the superintendent of the Boston Police Department recently visited the Twin Cities to talk safety -- and he said he hopes to see bags banned from nearly all sporting events.

Already, the NFL has fielded complaints from across the country. In Denver, one football fan had her car broken into during the game. Her purse was stolen, and she partially blames the new policy.
