Investigators Search For Leads In Killing Of NJ House-Sitter

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. -

A New Jersey woman is found dead she was shot dead inside a home that she was house sitting. It happened on Mayflower Street in Gloucester Township, Camden County.

FOX 29's Omari Fleming reported live from that Sicklerville neighborhood on Saturday night that the prosecutor's office said it is still under investigation, but they have released the shooting victim's name. It's Kathleen Korbell, 54, of Grenloch.

Sources say there is a trail of blood in the living room, and the office appears as if it had been ransacked. The safe was left empty and wide open.

"It's very, very disturbing," one woman said. "We try very hard to be a family-friendly neighborhood, and something like this happens."

Another neighbor called it "A little unnerving, a little scary because you don't really know."

Gloucester Township police are keeping close watch on the crime scene a day after police found Korbell dead inside the home Friday. They say she had been shot multiple times.

The Washington Township woman was house-sitting for two women on vacation, caring for their dog.

One resident named Mike lives right next door. His family members were among the many people questioned by police. He and his young neighbor, Mitchell, told investigators about seeing a vehicle parked in front of the house Friday. It's no longer there.

"I was riding around that corner, and I just saw a black and gray motorcycle just sitting there," the child said.

"I've seen a black motorcycle, older-style motorcycle here before, probably a handful of times in the year that I've lived here. So, it's not really out of the ordinary," Mike said.

Neighbors believe the motorcycle may belong to someone who had the close relationship with one of the homeowners on vacation.

Police wouldn't confirm that information or whether it's even connected to the crime.

While investigators continue to look into what happened on Mayflower, nervous neighbors are just looking for answers.

"I'd really like to know as a neighbor, what happened, you know, to more or less protect ourselves," one neighbor said.

Mike said he'll, "Pray that, you know, it's an isolated incident and justice can definitely be served fast."

The prosecutor's office says so far no suspects are in custody. Again, this is still under investigation, Fleming reported.
