Matthew Roff, the former roommate Jeffery Trevino and Kira Steger, leaves the courthouse after a cross-examination on Sept. 20, 2013
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -
It was another full day of witness testimony in the second-degree murder trial of Jeffery Trevino, charged with killing his wife Kira Steger and dumping her body in the Mississippi River.
Friday morning, all eyes and ears in the courtroom were on the defense cross examination of Jeff and Kira's former roommate, Matthew Roff.
Roff lived in the basement and was home the night of the alleged murder, but he told the court he heard no struggle, no argument and no broken furniture. Roff did admit he's a very heavy sleeper.
Matthew Roff was also grilled about whether or not he saw Kira's car in the garage the morning after the alleged murder.
FOX 9's Paul Blume caught up with Roff outside the courthouse following his testimony. You can see video at http://youtu.be/xSc7GRsVXiw
Also taking the stand on Friday was a long-time friend of Kira's who lives in Wisconsin. The woman testified about a public post she initially put up on Facebook, immediately after she learned the 30-year old was missing.
The Facebook post contained Kira's name, photo and a St. Paul police phone number if anyone had any information. She testified that 10 minutes after the post went public, Jeffery Trevino reached out and demanded she take the post down.
She described Trevino as "angry and agitated."
Another witness said Jeff Trevino thought the situation, with the missing person Facebook information going out so quickly, was "getting blown out of proportion."
