CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Two people were killed and a baby injured after separate lightning strikes in Gary, Indiana Thursday.

One man was working on a billboard near 26th Avenue and Clark Road when he was struck by lightning. He went into cardiac arrest and died at Gary Methodist, suffering multiple burns.

Police later identified the man as 28-year-old Angelo Santucci.

The fire department also responded to a separate incident at 1080 Jefferson Court after reports of smoke coming from the home. Several victims were found inside, including a 42-year-old man and his 9-month-old baby who were unconscious at the time, according to the police department.

The man was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The baby was airlifted to Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, where he remains in critical condition.

Elise Williams was in the area and could not believe what she saw.

"It was a crack that you wouldn't believe," she recalls. "We hear thunder but this was like a bomb or something that went off, you know what I mean."

Police say the house took a direct hit from a bolt of lightning, which blasted through the trees and into the front window.

Williams says she also witnessed that.

"I'm scared of lightning anyway, I'm frightened of it," says Williams. "And I looked and it was just like a big yellow fire or something, and I looked and it went right through that window there."

The baby's 72-year-old grandmother was also in the home at the time. Her condition is unknown.
