State investigating Duggan's fundraising activities

(WJBK) -

The state is launching an investigation into fundraising activities of the Mike Duggan mayoral campaign and the Turnaround Detroit Political Action Committee.

The investigation is the result of an official complaint over allegations that Duggan's campaign illegally raised $1.2 million during the primary.

The complaint states Turnaround Detroit received too much money and took contributions from corporations when it shouldn't have.

Fox 2 received this statement in response from Butch Hollowell, a campaign legal advisor:

"The complaint filed by the Napoleon supporters at Detroit Forward is frivolous. The only complaint against the Duggan for Mayor campaign committee is that we used common vendors, including Practical Political Consulting, from whom both Turnaround Detroit and Duggan for Mayor bought voter lists.
There was absolutely no coordination between the Turnaround Detroit and our campaign - no data was shared between the two campaigns.
The frivolous nature of the complaint is reflected by the fact that both Detroit Forward and the Napoleon for Mayor campaign also shared a common vendor for voter lists. The pre-primary statement of Napoleon for Mayor shows that the campaign paid $3,000 to Steve Hood for mailing lists. The pre-primary statement of Detroit Forward shows that the PAC paid Steve Hood $2,000 for mailing lists. In other words, Detroit Forward did exactly the same thing it claims in its complaint is objectionable.
We will file an appropriate response and expect the complaint to be dismissed without merit."

Benny Napoleon's campaign says the sheriff is focused on his own campaign and winning the election.
