The Anti-Cruelty Society unveils brand new facility after $3.6M renovation

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Anti-Cruelty Society, a Chicago animal welfare organization founded 114 years ago, unveiled state-of-the-art $3.6 million renovations to its headquarters on Monday.

The group had some growing pains recently, so the organization started a campaign to raise capital last year. The money came in on time and on budget, according to the society's board of directors and manager.

The Anti-Cruelty Society's facility is located at the corner of Wells and Grand. Their space was a bit cramped in the old basement. But thanks to the donated funds, they now have double the space at 7,500 square feet! Dr. Robyn Barbiers said the private entity relies on the generous public to continue operations.

"We're really excited. We moved in officially last week," Barbiers said. "We're just thrilled to be in this new space. It's so much larger and so efficient. We're very excited to show it off."

Barbiers also said the Anti-Cruelty Society now has four large exam rooms, an extended surgical suite and space for up to six surgical tables in that suite. If you'd like to visit the facility, you can take a look at these vets in action through the glass from the observation area.

The Anti-Cruelty Society serves around 10,000 animals annually. For more information, check out The Anti-Cruelty Society's website.
