Dangerous waves expected at Lake Michigan beaches

The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement, warning beachgoers willing to brave the chilly temperatures Friday to stay out of the lake because of dangerous conditions.

The Weather Service warns that dangerous pounding waves and life-threatening rip currents are possible on the beaches in Lake, Cook and Porter counties.

The advisory remains in effect through late Friday.

The forecast calls for scattered showers and a high of 62 on Friday, according to the Weather Service. North and northeast winds between 15 and 20 mph are possible.
