A semi driver died in a fiery crash Friday morning on Highway 55 in Golden Valley, Minn. after broadsiding a minivan that made an illegal left turn at Boone Avenue.
The crash happened at 10:35 a.m., near the junction of Highway 169.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said the minivan involved in the crash made a left turn from Highway 55 to Boone Avenue against a red arrow. The semi, headed west on Highway 55, swerved to avoid the crash but struck the minivan and a traffic light.
The truck burst into flames, killing the semi driver who was trapped inside. The driver of the van -- a 66-year-old Plymouth, Minn. woman -- was taken to North Memorial Medical Center.
A temporary four-way stop has been installed at Highway 55 and Boone Avenue until the traffic signals are repaired. The makeshift intersection is expected to cause delays in the area for a significant amount of time.
