FDNY emergency drill to be held at Barclays Center

NEW YORK (AP) - The Office of Emergency Management says the FDNY and U.S. Marine Corps will be conducting a disaster drill at the Barclays Center.

The OEM says it will be conducted from 8 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday.

It says military vehicles and personnel in hazardous materials suits will be at the Brooklyn facility at Atlantic and Flatbush avenues and near Dean Street between Flatbush and Sixth avenues.

    The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is working to track down whoever posted dozens of stickers and fliers with swastikas and the word "Uber" in Brooklyn. The stickers and flyers filled with images of hate were placed outside a Jewish boys' school on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. A Shomrim safety patrol spotted the stickers on the sidewalk and in the gutters, police said.

    For the first time in years, more than 1 million New Yorkers are smoking, marking a disturbing rise of tobacco use in the city that pioneered a number of anti-smoking initiatives that were emulated nationally.  Sixteen percent of adult New Yorkers smoked in 2013, up from 14 percent in 2010, which was the city's lowest recorded rate, according to the findings released by New York City's Department of Health.
