Grand jury hears testimony in police shooting of Terrance Franklin

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

A Hennepin County grand jury will hear testimony Thursday in the death of 22-year-old Terrance Franklin, who was shot and killed in a struggle with Minneapolis police last May.

Franklin, 22, fled a traffic stop on May 10 and broke into a house at Bryant Ave. S. and 27th Street.

Police maintain Franklin was shot when he grabbed for an officer's service weapon in the basement of the home, and forensic tests show Franklin's DNA on the trigger of the officer's gun.

Franklin's family has disputed the police account.

Franklin was shot in the back of the head five times and in the back twice. Two police officers were injured when shots were fired.

If testimony isn't completed Thursday, the grand jury will reconvene Sept. 19.
