A popular lakeside establishment in Excelsior, Minn. announced it would commemorate 9/11 by offering every menu item on the outdoor wharf at $9.11, a 43 percent discount in some cases.
Maynard's Restaurant of Excelsior posted the special on the venue's Facebook and Twitter pages, and within minutes, received backlash from users pointing out the Verona, Wis. golf course that offered a similar special and was slammed by those who felt the tribute was in poor taste.
Maynard's offer read as follows:
In Honor of 9/11: Tonight on our Wharf every Menu Item will $9.11 tonight, which is up 43% off! #GODBLESSUSA
Maynard's was quick to delete both Facebook and Twitter posts following the negative response, but it is unknown whether or not the restaurant will honor the offer.
Twelve years ago, nearly 3,000 people died in the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and in a hijacked flight that crashed in Shanksville, Pa. Many Americans look back on the attacks as moments forever etched in their memories, only to be recognized with a somber moment of silence, while others pick a more upbeat route and attend patriotic events in their respective communities with music and a celebratory nod to public safety officials.
