Teen hit by possible texting driver in Redford Twp.

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

Elizabeth Muse was walking home from school Monday afternoon when she was hit by a man driving a pickup truck, who neighbors believe was texting while driving.

Neighbors near Inkster north of Seven Mile Rd. say that stretch of Inkster Rd. is particularly problematic, and they see accidents all the time.

Neighbors say the speed limit needs to be lowered, and a sidewalk be put in on the Redford side of Inkster to match the sidewalk on the Livonia side.

There's no law in Redford mandating sidewalks be in front of homes, but the township's building department says there's movement in that direction.

In the meantime, neighbors want the driver to be held accountable. The driver initially sped off but later returned. He is in police custody right now awaiting charges while Muse recovers in the hospital. She is in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
