Charges dismissed for 2 imprisoned Chicago men

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

Two Chicago men are set to be released from prison after prosecutors dismissed charges against them.

Cook County Judge Paul Bieble Jr. approved Tuesday's motion, clearing the way for Latherial Boyd and Carl Chatman to be released.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office dismissed the charges after reviewing the cases.

Boyd was convicted of murder in 1990. State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says none of the nine eyewitnesses brought in for a lineup ID'd him as the shooter, but that evidence was never introduced at trial.

Chatman was convicted of sexually assaulting an employee inside a Daley Center courtroom in 2004.

Alvarez says a deputy sleeping in a room near where the attack purportedly occurred was never interviewed and never heard the victim, who says she screamed and fought loudly.
