BURNSVILLE, Minn. (KMSP) -

One man is in custody after a standoff at the Holiday gas station in Burnsville on Saturday evening.

Burnsville police responded to the Holiday on Nicollet Avenue off Highway 13 around 6 p.m. after receiving reports that a man with a shotgun entered the store and took two employees hostage, firing one round into the ceiling. No one was hurt.

A hostage negotiator with Burnsville police spoke with the armed man by phone and convinced him to give up and let the hostages go. The suspect was then arrested.

Officers identified the armed man as 31-year-old Ariel Luis Barnett. He remains in custody in the Dakota County Jail.

Police say the Bloomington bomb squad was called to investigate a suspicious package in the Holiday parking lot, but it ended up being harmless.

Formal charges are expected by noon on Tuesday.
