John Olson, the founder of Minnesota-based Olson advertising agency, passed away on Saturday following a three-year battle with cancer.
Olson's website published the following statement following his death:
"John Olson, our agency founder and chairman, passed away on Saturday, September 7th in his home following a brave, three-year battle with cancer. We already miss his energy, his insights, and his relentlessly innovative spirit that started this agency two decades ago and built it to become a top 5 independent full-service digital agency in North America, spanning six cities with more than 450 employees.
But we can't indulge our sorrow for long. John was not one for lingering and famously declared "Olson's legacy is the future." John shaped that future based on his belief in both the market rewards of connecting brand communities and the human reward of simply connecting as people. He knew we were all stronger when we relied on each other.
To that end, we will be creating a digital wall where his friends, coworkers and many admirers will be able to share memories and lessons. Together. As a community. That's what John knew how to build better than anyone. And how to keep things fresh with creativity, surprise, and the occasional llama.
We love you John. You've inspired us and will continue to inspire us.
And yes, we promise to never throw a small party."
