UGA newspaper finalist for college press award

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - The student newspaper covering the University of Georgia is a finalist for a national collegiate press award.

The Red & Black will compete with 21 other publications for the Newspaper Pacemaker award for non-daily journalism offered by the Associated Collegiate Press.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports the award is given for general excellence with newspapers being judged on criteria including coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, layout and design.

The Miami Herald is judging the 2013 contest. Winners will be announced Oct. 26 during a convention in New Orleans.
