FLOYD COUNTY, Ga. -

A Floyd County police office is being hailed as a hero after helping to save a man during a domestic dispute call.

Officer Chad Matthews was responding to a domestic call at a home in Cave Spring on Tuesday afternoon. Raven Gresham, 31, allegedly went to the home to get money from her grandparents. When they refused, authorities say she roughed up her grandmother. She left and police were called.

After Matthews arrived, the 75-year-old grandfather collapsed.

"Mr. Williard was sitting down in his chair and he looked at me and said, 'I'm about to pass out,'" said Matthews.

When Matthews called for an ambulance, a nephew of the victim was listening in at the 911 call center.

Phillip Wheeler is the administrative assistant to the call center director. He was previously a dispatcher, so he has a lot of experience, but none dealing with calls involving his own family.

"You're kind of like shocked because it's your family that you hear going over the radio," Wheeler said.

By using an electronic defibrillator and performing CPR, Matthews was able to save the 75-year-old man.

"I don't look at myself as a hero or anything special. I was doing my job," Matthews said.

Wheeler said that his uncle will be out in the hospital within a couple of days.

Matthews paid the man a visit in the hospital on Friday. He's now under consideration for "Officer of the Year" for Floyd County police.

Gresham is still in jail on a battery charge.
