Christie picks date with wife over Sen. Rand Paul

By ANGELA DELLI SANTI

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie has other plans on Friday, the day Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is set to come to New Jersey to endorse the Republican running for U.S. Senate.

Christie is taking wife Mary Pat to Florida for the weekend to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Paul is scheduled to endorse fellow Republican Steve Lonegan at a rally in northern New Jersey. Lonegan is the conservative running against Democrat Cory Booker for an open Senate seat.

Christie and Paul - both potential 2016 presidential candidates - clashed last month over national security and federal budgets. Christie is considered a moderate, Paul a libertarian.

When Paul suggested the two make up over a beer, Christie said he was too busy running for re-election.

On Tuesday, the governor said the choice between Paul and his wife is "no choice."

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
