Labor Day weekend means Ludaday weekend in ATL

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

It's Labor Day weekend--- which also means it's Ludaday weekend!  The eighth annual event means dozens of celebrities are in Atlanta for charity, and it's all the work of actor and hip-hop star Ludacris.

Ludacris got things started with a bang on Thursday when he returned to his old stomping grounds at Banneker High School in College Park.  He surprised students there, and left behind a special gift for the teachers: $20,000.

It was the kickoff to Ludaday weekend.  Through his foundation, Ludacris has touched thousands of Atlanta families, providing holiday gifts for kids, turkey dinners at Thanksgiving, and more.  He's been very generous in his gifts to area youth, but this time, it was those who show them the way that got the donation.

For students at Banneker, he had an overpowering message that if he could make it, so could they.  Ludacris said he wants to remind people that you never forget where you came from.

His work isn't finished.  The weekend ahead includes a full schedule of appearances, concerts and even a celebrity basketball game-- which is always a highlight of the weekend.  This year, Ludacris put together one of the teams, and Usher rallied the other.  All of the proceeds go to charity.
