GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Federal authorities in the United States and Mexico are on alert after a west suburban man abducted his toddler son and the boy's teenage aunt and is believed to be in Mexico.

Fernando Margarito, of Glendale Heights, took his 2-year-old son -- also named Fernando Margarito -- for an authorized visitation on Wednesday, but father and son never returned, according to Glendale Heights police. The boy's mother has full custody.

Police were notified that the pair was missing on Friday, when he called his son's mother and said they had traveled to Mexico, according to police.

"It is believed Margarito left the area with the intent to take his son to Mexico without the consent of the child's mother," a statement from police said.

Margarito also took his son's aunt, 14-year-old Susana Rosales, without her parents' consent, police said.

Investigators have confirmed that Margarito's vehicle entered Mexico at 11:08 p.m. Thursday, but it was not known who else was in the vehicle, police said.

The car was described as a white 2000 Chevrolet Astro Van with Illinois plates S371196.

The missing boy is described as Hispanic, 2-foot-6 and 34 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. He was wearing a grey shirt with white and green stripes, grey short and Converse shoes.

The missing girl is described Hispanic, 5-foot-7 and 114 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair, wearing a white shirt with pink stripes, blue skirt and pink sandals.

Glendale Heights police are investigating along with Illinois State Police, U.S. Border Patrol and Mexican authorities.
