AG: Brothers indicted for attempting to defraud One Fund

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – Brothers from Boston's South End have been indicted on charges of attempting to steal millions from the One Fund.

Attorney General Martha Coakley said Brandon Mattier, 22, and Domunique Grice, 27, were each indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit larceny over $250, attempt to commit larceny over $250 and identity fraud.

Mattier was arrested on July 2 after an undercover state trooper delivered a fake check to him in the amount of $2.195 million.

Investigators said that Mattier and Grice put together a claim letter to The One Fund in the name of their deceased aunt. According to the AG's office, the two claimed their aunt required amputations following the Boston Marathon Bombings.

The two reportedly attended a Town Hall meeting held by The One Fund at the Boston Public Library on behalf of their aunt. The AG's office said Mattier even spoke with the media about the importance of their aunt being compensated because her medical bills had started to pile up.

Mattier posted a photo of himself on his Instagram account with One Fund administrator Kenneth Feinberg on May 7. His caption read, "Just spoke with Feinberg about what we can provide to help the city move forward in this tragedy, he loved it."

Another photo caption read, "Big Meeting w/ The One Fund Boston, & Kenneth Feinberg, Re-Building The City After The Bombing."

The brothers also attended a private ceremonial closing of the Copley Square Marathon memorial and a complimentary dinner at the Seaport Hotel meant only for bombing victims and their families, the AG's office said.

Mattier was being held in lieu of $20,000 cash bail. The brothers will be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court at a later date.
