It has been a pretty horrific fire season across much of North America and especially across the western U.S. We have been talking about it all summer long with plenty of smoke spreading across the state as fires burn all around us. But now NASA has another way to see it, and it's pretty mesmerizing. The video is provided by NASA's AIRS (Atmospheric Infrared Sounder) instrument. It has been calibrated to see the spread of CO2 pollution which fires produce a lot of in their smoke. The large wildfires of Idaho and California show up the best. But you can really see how far reaching the smoke from some of these fires really is.
