ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

Police have identified the St. Paul officer who struck and killed a 101-year-old as Lori Goulet.

Goulet has spent 16 years with the department, and has been disciplined twice in previous on-duty crashes.

On Aug. 16, Goulet backed a squad into St. Paul woman Roza Sakhina in the 800 block of Cleveland Avenue S.

Friends of Sakhina told FOX 9 News the Russian immigrant took a daily walk and was crossing the street to return to her apartment when a police SUV backed into her.

Sakhina suffered a head injury in the crash that led to her death at Regions Hospital on Wednesday.

"She wanted to be independent, wanted to do everything herself," Sava Balaym told FOX 9 News. "She was a very balanced, very quiet person."

Goulet was involved in a preventable accident in 1994 that included a vehicle sideswiping, St. Paul police public information officer Howie Padilla confirmed.
