Police investigate possible drowning death of 5-year-old boy in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (KMSP) -

Grand Rapids police are investigating the possible drowning death of a 5-year-old boy in Crystal Lake.

Police responded to reports of the drowning boy on Saturday around 1:30 p.m. at Crystal Lake located in northeast Grand Rapids. The boy had gone under the water attempting to get on top of a swim raft, according to a Grand Rapids Police Department press release.

Officers and first responders jumped into the water and pulled the boy out. He was transported to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital where he later died.

Police are investigating the details leading up to the drowning incident. The boy's identity has not been released.
