Pit bull that bit boy at Lake Nokomis does not have rabies

Posted: Updated:
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) -

The owner of a pit bull that bit a 7-year-old boy the weekend has come forward and said the pit bull does not have rabies.

For days, Riley Gallagher and his family have waited for the dog owner to come forward with documentation of rabies vaccinations. The boy will no longer need to take rabies shots to ensure he doesn't become ill.

The boy was cheering on his mother and her friends at the YWCA triathlon at Lake Nokomis on Sunday, but just moments after a photo caught him and his father running across the finish line with his mother, teeth clamped down on his left leg.

The dog has been quarantined.
