Turbulence: Ride Along With Hurricane Hunters

It's not every day that you get a chance to ride along with hurricane hunters during the peak of hurricane season. However, thanks to the power of the Internet you can at least you can be there cyber-wise. NASA's month long Global Hawk Hurricane project is on its way and you can tag along.

Here is a link to the NASA website where you can track the actual Global Hawk aircraft  http://asp-tracker.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/ .

Once on the site just play around and get familiar with all the controls. Have fun tracking the plane's location and activities. Here are a few control functions to experiment with. Have fun.

1. Extreme upper left: click on small downward arrow to pick specific plane:

NASA871 = Global Hawk 871, AV1

NASA872 = Global Hawk 872, AV6

2. Next selection box just to the right gives you ways to locate where the plane is now

3. The next selection box just to the right is a "small cog wheel" which gives you some options:

"Show latest flight"

"Browse the Flight path"

Browsing will bring up a list of past flight... ... might have to roll down to find 9-2012 flights

4. "ADD Layers" In the left column...Click here if you want to add some mapped weather data

Have fun tracking everyone. Frazier
