Chief Harteau weds longtime partner

Posted: Updated:

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau tied the knot with her longtime partner off-the-force Sgt. Holly Keegel on Friday night.

Harteau and Keegel wed in Minneapolis at Prohibition bar in the Foshay Tower on Marquette Avenue. They've been together for 25 years and joked with Star Tribune columnist C.J. before the event that they still weren't "sure" about making it official. Harteau is openly gay and is the city's first female police chief.

Harteau told C.J. that they began planning a wedding a month ago. Same-sex marriage officially became legal on Aug. 1 in Minnesota.
