NYPD announces street closures for weekend

The New York City Police Department announced street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend of August 17th & 18th, 2013. Drivers should expect delays in the following areas:

Saturday, August 17

DOT / SUMMER STREETS - Manhattan:

Route: Centre Street between Brooklyn Bridge exit and Reade Street / Lafayette Street

Lafayette Street between Reade Street/ Centre Street and Fourth Avenue

Fourth Avenue between Lafayette Street and East 15th Street

Union Square East between East 15th Street and East 17th Street

Park Avenue South between East 17th Street and East 32nd Street

Park Avenue between East 32nd Street and East 72nd Street (Including the viaduct between East 40th Street and East 46th Street)

72nd Street between Park Avenue and 5th Avenue

Rest Stops: Centre Street between Reade Street / Lafayette Street and Worth Street

Cleveland Place between Kenmare Street and Spring Street

Spring Street between Crosby Street and Mulberry Street

Kenmare Street between Lafayette Street and Cleveland Place

Astor Place between Broadway and 4th Avenue

East 12th Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue

East 24th Street between Madison Avenue and Lexington Avenue

    The Hess triangle is a tiny piece of private property in Greenwich Village. Manhattan historian Joyce Gold explained the origins of the property: After World War I, New York City seized a beautiful residence and tore it down so it could extend Seventh Avenue and the west side subway below it. The city left the building's owner only a tiny scrap of property so small it requested he donate the triangle to make way for a sidewalk. The man refused, took the city to court and won.
