NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD says the body of a woman was discovered in a Staten Island park. They are investigating if the victim may be a 20-year-old woman reported missing earlier this month.
Police say the body was discovered after three people walking a dog in Willibrook Park on Thursday smelled a strong foul odor and called 911.
Police searched for an hour before finding the body in a wooded area.
They are looking into whether the body is that of Megan Marotte. The body was found near Victory Boulevard and Morani Street, near where Marotte was last seen on Aug. 4.
A positive identification and the cause of death will be made by the medical examiner's office.
