WARM UP POSSIBLE: Just In Time For The State Fair.

Almost every time you mention the Minnesota State Fair, you start to hear stories about just how hot it will be. Yes, it starts in late August and it runs through Labor Day, the unofficial end to summer, but there is no real reason why it should be miserably hot.

After a summer where it seems that cooler days have been around more than warmer days, the approach of the Great Minnesota Get together has some warm weather enthusiasts hoping that the past lives up to its reputation. That hot past just may come back to haunt us if the latest weather models pan out. If anything, we will see temperatures above normal, which is around 81°.

The reason for the excitement over the warm up is what we see on the 300 mb forecast model. This model is used to show the position of the Jetstream, that river of air in the upper atmosphere that separates the warmer air masses to the south and the cooler air masses to the north. Here is the forecast position of the jet stream for late next week.

Look closely, you can see those tight isobars and light blue colors forming an east to west line across Canada. That the is the jet stream position for late next week and as you can see its way up north. This positioning will allow warm and humid air to rise far north, covering the upper Midwest, including Minnesota. Stay tuned to the forecast, if it pans out, the Minnesota State Fair will once again live up to its warm weather reputation.
