Jason Russell & Ben Keesey: We Never Expected It To Go That Viral

Posted: Updated:

Thousands saw the breakdown on TMZ and YouTube, but Jason Russell says he doesn't really remember his naked, obscenity-filled rant on a San Diego street last year.

Russell, who co-founded the organization Invisible Children, was the filmmaker behind the documentary "Kony 2012," which urged action against Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony.  The documentary went viral, bringing Kony to the attention of millions who'd never heard of him.

But then, on March 15, 2012, police in San Diego began receiving calls reporting a man who was running along a street in his underwear and screaming.  The man was Jason Russell.  "Everything was just madness.  I was so wound up, I couldn't eat; I couldn't sleep, and I had a total meltdown, a naked breakdown on the street.  It was out of body, I don't really even remember being on the street."

Russell was taken to a mental health clinic, where it took two weeks for him to get back to normal, he said.  He says he was confused and thought that people were trying to kill him.  Doctors said he suffered a psychotic break.

Jason Russell joins Steve Edwards and Maria Sansone on Good Day L.A.
