Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

A St. Paul man who police say was attacked while walking through gang-related violence near his apartment may soon be taken out of a medically-induced coma.

According to Ray Widstrand's CaringBridge page, he is in critical but stable condition and is continuing to make positive progress.

Widstrand's family told FOX 9 he had moved into his own apartment near Minnehaha and Preble in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood a couple of months ago.

While walking home last Sunday night, he came across 30 to 40 teenagers fighting in the street. He tried to walk through the crowd but was knocked to the ground, hit and stomped on, then left unconscious and bleeding on the sidewalk.

One man has been charged with aggravated robbery and crime for the benefit of a gang. Police have also arrested three teens in connection with the incident.

He loved his job as a master control operator for a public access channel in White Bear Lake.
