SUMMER OR NOT? Below Average Temps Continue

When it comes to that summer heat, we here in Minnesota are watching the clock. Unlike other parts of the country, we can usually use a stopwatch to measure the amount of time we can spend outside in shorts and T-shirts. Are we being cheated? We only have a few months to get to 90° and so far we can't even get to average. Just incase you're wondering, the average high temperature is 80° or above through the 23rd of the month.

This time of year we usually see our jet stream positioned well to the north. So far, it just wants to sag south. Here is a map for the Jetstream position leading into this upcoming weekend, August 10-11.

TODAY'S JETSTREAM THURSDAY 8/8/13

We had an Omega block to blame for part of the summer, those bookends of high pressure that kept storm systems from moving along. Now as we head into yet another August weekend, High pressure is building in from Canada to clear us out and cool us down.

While this will make for a nice weekend with sun and pleasant temps, it will also keep us from heating up.  If you're looking for the heat, its not in sight, at least through mid August. Here is a forecast map of how the jetstream will mess with our summer, at least through the middle of the month.

For those looking to soak it up, its not all lost. As you know we have the Minnesota State fair starting in two weeks. For the most part the fair weather seems to usher in at least one last breath of summer. Last year we spent the last week of August in the mid to upper 80s with even a few days in the low 90s.
