SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING

NEW: TORNADO WATCH UNTIL 9:00 PM

A TORNADO WATCH is in effect Until 9:00 PM TUESDAY for a large part of Central and Southern Minnesota.

It's been a while but we find ourselves under the gun for some possible strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. A cold front will be moving through the state later this Tuesday, and with our muggy air in place, strong storms can develop. The biggest threats will be large hail, 1" in diameter, and strong winds, in excess of 60 mph. As with any severe thunderstorm, an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

Here is the slight risk area as depicted by the Storm Prediction Center

TIMELINE:

* Look for storms to develop west and northwest of the metro between 3PM and 6PM.

* Storms moving through the metro any time after 3 PM, with the best chances between 5 PM and 9PM.

Here are two computer models with the estimated position of the storms come 6 PM this evening.
