A tractor rollover in Clearwater Township killed a 5-year-old boy and his 50-year-old grandfather, both of Monticello, Minn., over the weekend.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Wright County sheriff's officials responded to reports of a tractor that had flipped over in a ditch near the intersection of County Road 104 and Huber Avenue Northwest.
Responding emergency workers found Ron Gustafson, 50, and his grandson, Rollie Gustafson, pinned beneath the tractor. Crews extracted both victims, but neither survived.
Ron Gustafson was pronounced dead at the scene while his grandson was flown to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis where he too was pronounced dead. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office attributed his death to blunt force injuries.
The man's son and the boy's uncle, Roger Gustafson, told the Associated Press that said the boy and his sister had been living with their grandparents. He says his dad and nephew were always with each other, hand in hand.
Roger Gustafson explained that his father was helping him put up a fence Friday and took the boy for a tractor ride while Roger Gustafson was moving some machinery.
Funeral services for both Ron and Rollie Gustafson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in Clearwater. Reverend Scott Gjevre will officiate. Burial will take place in Motley Cemetery in Motley, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in before the service.
The Wright County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
