Crews work to clear flooded roads near Page

Updated:
PAGE, Ariz. -

A highway in Page that was closed due to flooding has been re-opened, however, a mile of highway will likely remain closed all weekend after mud caused by heavy rain Friday night forced the highway in and out of Page to shut down.

"I've never seen anything like it before, I've only seen stuff like that on the news," said Zachary Coleman, a Page resident.

Coleman took a video that became the news.

He says the water came down from a wash, flooded out Highway 89 and filled the parking lot of a nearby gas station with a massive amount of rain.

"It's probably once in a lifetime kind of thing, but it's extraordinary," said Coleman.

Coleman wasn't the only page resident to share images from the storm, we received picture after picture from our viewers on our FOX 10 Facebook page.

"That water is like something I've never seen before. The magnitude of the water just floating over the highway and I've never seen that much water come through Page before," said Kevin Endischee, a Page resident.

Endischee says the water was raging, and even backed up traffic.

US 98 and Highway 89 were both shut down. ADOT has already made progress on the roads.

"US 98 is open into Page and US 89 itself, there's only about a one mile closure, there's still access into Page and destinations around there, like Lake Powell," said ADOT spokesman Garin Groff.

Crews also had to clear off two feet of mud.

Coleman says the excitement of the storm washes away any worries about the muddy mess it left behind.

"Us Native Americans, we enjoy the rain, going through a drought and everything, and...people have livestock up here, e do need the rain and it is a blessing," said Coleman.

No drivers were hurt during the flood, but a FOX 10 viewer says a semi truck got stranded in the flood water on Highway 89.
