NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police officers recovered a parrot that they say an ex-con stole and then sold, and have reunited the bird with its owner, the NYPD announced Friday.

Darryyl Walker, 53, followed a 67-year-old woman carrying her parrot in a cage into an elevator and onto the 11th floor of a building in the Morris Houses in the Bronx on Monday, police said. Walker, who is on parole for robbery, then stole the bird at gunpoint, police said.

Cops tracked down Walker at his home after examining security camera footage. He confessed to the robbery, police said. He allegedly told cops he had sold the bird, which is named Cuca.

Detectives asked the public for tips about the bird's whereabouts, and on Friday recovered the parrot and reunited it with its owners at the 42nd Precint, the NYPD.

Authorities have charged Walker with robbery, grand larceny, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon, although cops did not find a gun on him when they arrested him, the NYPD said.
