A massive fire that broke out in an auto body shop near the University of Minnesota East Bank damaged a deli and a day care just before midnight on Thursday.
The fire broke out at about 11:42 p.m. Wednesday in an auto body shop at 2812 University Avenue SE near Highway 280.
An alarm at International Childcare Center alerted Minneapolis fire crews, and about 20 minutes later, the roof of the auto body shop started to collapse. A 300-foot radio tower next to the building collapsed into the fire, officials said.
Sabrina's Grocery and Deli shares the same building and was reportedly destroyed.
No injuries were reported. Officials think most of the building will be a total loss but are continuing to investigate.
