ATLANTA -

The Atlanta Police Department has partnered with several local agencies to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6.

National Night Out is organized by the National Association of Town Watch and encourages communities to partner with local law enforcement to increase crime prevention awareness.

Neighborhoods and Neighborhood Planning Units are invited to register block parties and other events by emailing Crime Prevention Inspector G. Mayes at gmayes@atlantaga.gov or leaving a message at 404-546-5550.

Events registered by Friday, August 2 may receive visits from city officials.

Sample events include community block parties, ice cream socials and community clean-ups. All Atlanta National Night Out activities are free, family-friendly and promote community pride and safety.

This year's theme is "The More We Get Together, The Safer We'll Be" and bulleted below is a partial list of events.

Atlanta National Night Out partners include the Atlanta Police Department, Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, the Mayor's Office of Weed & Seed, City of Atlanta Departments of Corrections, Public Works, Planning and Community Development and Watershed Management; the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

This year is the 30th anniversary of National Night Out with over 34 million people across the country expected to participate. For more information about National Night Out, the largest annual crime and drug prevention event, visit www.nationalnightout.org or call 1-800-NITE OUT.
