Car Slams Into Historic U.S. Landmark's Steps In Old City

PHILADELPHIA -

A car ended up on the sidewalk and struck the steps of a historic landmark in Old City Philadelphia on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened on Chestnut Street between Fourth and Fifth streets around 9 a.m.

Witnesses say guy went up the sidewalk on Chestnut just past Fifth between trees and traveled four car-lengths before the Second Bank of the United States.

The car took out a sign and damaged steps in front of the bank but luckily did not hit anyone walking in the area.

Two people inside the car suffered minor injuries. The female passenger was put into neck and leg braces, FOX 29's Steve Keeley reported from the scene.

Chestnut was closed at Fifth Street, just past Independence Hall, while the car was being removed.

And a crew was quickly at the scene with cement signs to repair the damage.
