Brookhaven considers golf carts for transportation

Posted: Updated:
BROOKHAVEN, Ga. -

Brookhaven is considering becoming a golf cart community.

Brookhaven City Councilman Bates Mattison came up with the idea when he ran for city council last fall.

Residents told Mattison they want the new city of Brookhaven to be a golf cart community, like we see at Peachtree City, which is located south of Atlanta. He says it wasn't the top concern for residents, but it did stand out as the city looks at transportation alternatives.

The idea is far from becoming a reality in Brookhaven.

The Brookhaven City Council plans to discuss the possibility of allowing golf carts during an upcoming work session in a few weeks.

In the meantime, the City Council will study other golf cart ordinances and educating themselves on state law as well.

Currently, only 23 Georgia cities have laws regarding operating golf carts.
