Police in Willmar, Minn., are investigating the murder of a 79-year-old woman found dead in her home after she failed to arrive at a Bible study group.
"It has been a shock. We are just walking through it minute by minute," Lila Warwick's daughter, Cheri Ekbom, told FOX 9 News. "For me, it really hasn't hit me yet."
Warwick was supposed to pick up her daughter Monday morning but never showed up. Later that evening, fellow volunteers at Redeemer Lutheran Church got concerned when Warwick didn't turn up for her volunteer duties.
"There was a gracious person at church who knew it wasn't like my mom to not show up," said Ekbom. "She went to the home. Everything was secured, but she could see the car was in the garage."
A Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputy was called to do a welfare check and found Lila Warwick killed inside her home.
"At that point, saw there was some blood in the garage," said Sheriff Dan Hartog. "Then, located the individual in the house."
Warwick was a widow and lived alone in a home parallel to Highway 12 just outside of Willmar for years. Neighbors say she would always help out with mowing the lawn and yard work, and they never heard or saw anything out of the ordinary.
"She wasn't really out spoken but she wasn't shy either. She just wanted to have a good, safe life, I believe," said Don Dokken.
Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension crime lab investigators examined the scene and determined Warwick was murdered inside the house. No arrests have been made.
Family is asking for prayers and they urge anyone with information to call police.
"What's gotten us through this is our faith. and we know that's the only reason we can get through it with the peace we know she's in heaven because she has Jesus in her heart," said Ekbom.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office at 320-235-1260.
