DNR discards truckloads of office furniture

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Georgia's Department of Natural Resources tossed out dozens of pieces of furniture to a dump site, and the move is raising eyebrows among some taxpayers.

A whistleblower familiar with the condition of the furniture contacted FOX 5.  Well over 150 pieces of furniture, including tables, chairs and beyond were discarded.  The state says the furniture was all in poor condition, but sources familiar with the condition of the furniture tell FOX 5 they don't agree.

The furniture had been used by state workers from the Department of Natural Resources.  Authorities decided to downsize an office, and a removal company showed up at the end of last week to cart of dozens of pieces of furniture.

Not one but two trucks worth of the furniture wound up at a Gwinnett County recycler, which then handed it off to a landfill.

A spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources tells FOX 5 they were able to redistribute a few of the pieces, but that they got permission from the General Office of Administration to throw the rest away.
