CHILLING OUT: One record down, one more to go

We haven't seen temperatures this cool, this late in July, since 1991.

Many parts of the state started off with temperatures in the 40s and most of us never got out of the 60s. The average high for this time of year is 83° and the average low is 64°.

Funny that 64° is our average low, as that was our high this Saturday in the Twin Cities. It also set a record as the coolest low high ever for this date. The old record low high was 65° set back in 1991.

Our record breaking is not over yet! Tonight we will make a run for another entry into the record books as we head towards our record low of 50°, set 32 years ago in 1981.

The cold air is coming from Canada and is being funneled in between a low to our east and a high to our west. We will rebound in just a few days as that high moves off to our East and starts to pull in some warmer air from the Southwest.

In the meantime, enjoy this break from the heat and humidity. Last year we saw mid nineties more than a week past labor Day. Frazier
