Child Struck By SUV That Stops, Then Drives Off

PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia police are searching for the driver who hit a toddler in Germantown and then took off.

And now the child's family is pleading for that driver to turn himself in.

The child is OK, but the video we are about to show you may be hard to watch.

The driver hit the 4-year-old boy while he was crossing the street with his sister at Germantown Avenue and Seymour Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The boy breaks away from his sister and runs out into the street as the SUV turns the corner, running into the side of the vehicle.

The driver gets out, takes a look, and then gets back into the car and takes off.

The boy's family is pleading for the driver to turn himself in.

"Just to think of the mindset that that person has right now or whatever is going through his head right now, I would just completely wish that they'd turn themselves in," said Anthony Wright, the brother of the boy who was struck.

The child was not seriously injured. He was released from a hospital overnight.

If you know anything about the driver, please call police.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley has more details in this live report from Friday morning outside Philadelphia Police Headquarters.
