It's often said that anything will come back into style given enough time, and if the fashion forecast is true, the clothes in dad's closet may be coming back into vogue.
Guys over the age of 40 may soon be able to get away with wearing their old garb once more, but there are some who hope the prediction proves untrue.
With jeans a little lighter blue and a little looser fitting, a lot of guys -- especially those who build things -- are turning to what a New York Times fashion writer has termed "dad jeans."
For those who never knew that style went out, there's a sigh of relief. There was a time when Jerry Seinfeld wore them on TV without much critique, but it's been a while.
Style hasn't stopped President Barack Obama from wearing them on casual occasions, but Mall of America trend expert Sarah Rogers admits the prediction from New York is the stuff of nightmares for her.
"Darker washed in a straight-leg silhouette is uber-flattering, and for most guys, that's goof-proof," she said.
The difference, she contends, is fashion vs. function. Though the "dad jean" may a timeless go-to for playing touch football, fashionistas still regard them as a faux pas.
