Ever since seeing the pomp and circumstance outside Buckingham Palace with the gilded easel announcing the birth of a baby boy, it seems something similar would be appropriate.
Time-honored, dignified, and really hard to read, the easel simply had to be shown outside the palace where the Minnesota Twins play to help spread the news of the Mauer births as best as possible.
Although Twitter proclaimed the news three hours earlier thanks to the Twins' communication staff, the low-tech announcement still reigns with royal importance. After all, the golden easel in Britain got scooped by Twitter too.
Twins fans still appreciated the efforts, and some who turned out for ballpark tours -- in Mauer shirts, no less -- didn't even know the bundles of joy were coming.
Joe Mauer first talked about hitting this double back in February, and he was suddenly pulled from Tuesday's lineup in Los Angeles to fly home after his wife, Maddie, went into labor.
Unlike the heir to the throne in England, the Mauers of Minnesota had names right out of the gate -- but at least an effort was made to not be outdone by those on the other side of the pond.
