Source: Aaron Hernandez subject of grand jury probe into 2012 murders

BRISTOL, Conn. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Weeks after FOX 25 first reported police were looking at former Patriot Aaron Hernandez in connection to a 2012 double homicide, a law enforcement source has confirmed that prosecutors are presenting evidence in the case to a Suffolk County Grand Jury.

Hernandez could end up facing an indictment in the murders.

FOX 25 has also learned Hernandez did not become a suspect in the case until after the Odin Lloyd murder. It is unclear how the connection was made.

Two men were killed in a drive-by shooting that happened in Boston's South End in July 2012. Witnesses said a silver SUV with Rhode Island plates pulled alongside a BMW and opened fire on the car. Three men were shot, two of them, Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, were killed. Sources tell FOX 25 investigators believe Hernandez and the shooting victims were at the same Boston night club before the drive-by. Also, police recently towed a silver SUV with Rhode Island plates from the home of Aaron Hernandez's uncle in Bristol, Conn.

Mass. authorities have been digging deep in Bristol, where Hernandez grew up. On Tuesday, a Conn. Superior Court unsealed documents connected to the Odin Lloyd murder investigation.

Among the documents was a list of items seized at Hernandez's uncle's Lake Avenue home. FOX 25's Ted Daniel says the list indicates two defendants charged in connection to the murder of Odin Lloyd, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, had ties to the home. Ortiz lived at the home, according to court paperwork.

The items seized include two boxes of .380 caliber cartridges with a total of 97 cartridges inside and a plastic gun box.

A Superior Court judge ordered documents related to the seizure of the silver SUV to remain sealed Tuesday, reports the Hartford Courant.

Prosecutors say Hernandez, Wallace and Ortiz drove with Lloyd in a rented Nissan Altima to the North Attleboro industrial park where he was fatally shot.

Wallace, 41, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of being an accessory to murder after the fact. Ortiz is facing an illegal possession of a firearm charge.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
