State inspectors check rides at Six Flags Over Georgia

AUSTELL, GA. -

State inspectors spent the day at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday to make sure the rides are safe.

The inspection came days after a woman was killed on the Texas Giant roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas.  Witnesses said a woman fell off the roller coaster after they say she complained her lap bar wasn't secure.

Six Flags said that it will not speculate on how the accident happened, but inspectors in Georgia aren't taking any chances. They spent hours looking at restraints on all the roller coasters on Monday.

"We check the nuts, the bolts, the latching mechanisms, seatbelts, electrical," said State Fire Marshal Dwayne Garriss.

One ride was manufactured by the same company that made the roller coaster in Texas.

"The ride that is manufactured by the same company is the Daredevil, and of course that's one of the first rides we're going to check on but that is a newer ride here at Six Flags Over Georgia," said Garriss.

Inspectors from the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner's office say their last full inspection was in March, and that the park was compliant before it opened this season.

Parents who brought their kids to Six Flags told FOX 5 that they won't let Friday's incident in Texas stop them. They added that they felt safe knowing inspectors were taking another look.

"It's not something that happens every day. We know there is risk involve,  but we come to have fun and know there are things in place done to take care of our safety," said Michelle Weil.

Inspectors said all went well during Monday's visit. There were no violations found.  Six Flags officials said that their crews do daily inspections, in addition to the yearly inspections.
