The Earth like No One has Ever Seen Before

Posted: Updated:

Living on Earth is a blessing with its life giving atmosphere and ionosphere keeping the harmful radiation of the sun at bay while manufacturing oxygen, food, and water that we need to survive. But very few of us actually get to see the Earth from a distance which didn't even become possible until the start of the space age some 50 years ago. But now we are getting a different look at our planet. We all know what the earth looks like from near space and from the moon with thousands of pictures and video taken by astronauts and satellites alike. But does the earth look like every other star in the night sky from a distance? Until now, we weren't sure. This is a picture captured by the Cassini mission spacecraft orbiting Saturn in the outer solar system and notice; we look just like other stars. Earth is the brighter of the two spots near the center, while the Moon is visible to its lower left. The unprocessed image shows several streaks that are not stars but rather cosmic rays that struck the digital camera while it was taking the image. The image was snapped by Cassini on Friday and released on Saturday. The information in this article is provided by NASA.
